Woakes' Shoulder Injury May End His Bowling Early in Oval Test
India vs England 5th Test: England fast-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India due to a shoulder injury.
England’s Chris Woakes might not bowl again in the fifth Test against India after hurting his left shoulder while fielding. Late in the day, he slipped on the wet ground chasing a ball and fell badly, grabbing his shoulder in pain. Team physio Ben Davies helped him off the field, and Woakes used his jumper as a sling.
England haven’t said how serious the injury is yet, but he was expected to get a scan overnight. Fellow bowler Gus Atkinson said, “It doesn’t look great. It’s sad, especially in the last match of the series.”
Woakes bowled 14 overs on Day 1, taking 1 wicket for 46 runs. If he doesn’t return, England will be a bowler short. He’s played all five Tests in the series, just like Mohammed Siraj from India, and has taken 11 wickets in total.
He’s England’s most experienced fast bowler in the squad. The others Atkinson, Overton, and Tongue have only 18 Test matches between them. Atkinson, back from a hamstring injury, said he’s ready to push himself if needed: “I feel fresh and good. It’s just one game, so I’ll give it everything.”
