ICC T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa announces its T20 team for the 2024 World Cup, led by Aiden Markram

South Africa has announced the ICC Men's T20 World Cup team squad, which will be led by Aiden Markram.

Just a month left over the start of the big entertaining tournament the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be hosted in the West Indies and the USA. World’s teams are gearing up for the tournament and have started declaring the Playing XI. South Africa has announced the 15-player team member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 which is confirmed and Aiden Markram will be captain of the squad.

Some important and big changes have been noticed in the squad's inclusion. Aiden Markram was already leading the Proteas since the T20 World Cup 2022. Two important sportsmen have been included in the list- Anrich Nortje and Quinton De Kock, who were recently excluded from Cricket South Africa’s central contract list.

The inclusion of both is startling because Anrich is away from international cricket since 2023 due to a back injury and De Kock had already farewelled the international ODI and Test Cricket in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

The two youngsters, Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman got their international cap after their excellent performance in the recent SA20 T20I tournament and thus, are in the squad alongside the other 12 capped T20I players. Rickelton is the top run-getter for MI Cape Town in this game, accumulating 530 runs at an average of 58.88 and a strike rate of 173.77. The reverse is the case for Daphne Baartman of the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape who took 18 wickets in just eight matches.

When it comes to youth, the Proteas have a rather strong batting with the likes of Markram, De Kock, Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

Kagiso Rabada will form the pace battery which will be supported by Shardul Thakur, Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee while Bjorn Fortuin, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will spin the ball upfront.
