The Test series between England and India will be called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Test series between England and India will be played for a new trophy named after the legendary pair Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson.
Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson will have their names on a special trophy as the ECB and BCCI have decided to call the Test series between England and India the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Both Tendulkar and Anderson will unveil the trophy at Lord's during the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which starts on June 11.
England and India will begin the new WTC cycle with a five-Test series, starting at Headingley (Leeds) on June 20.
Anderson, who played 188 Tests, retired last July, while Tendulkar retired in 2013 after playing 200 Tests. Previously, the series in England was named the Pataudi Trophy, after former Indian captains Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. The series in India was called the Anthony de Mello Trophy, named after one of the founding members of the BCCI who also served as its first secretary and president from 1946-47 to 1950-51.
This naming continues the trend that started with the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy for the Test series between England and New Zealand, introduced in November 2024. Similarly, India and Australia compete for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Test matches.
