Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav ready to bat for the country. He is under the supervision of BCCI's medical staff as he recovers from surgery. This was Surya’s third surgery in three years.
India's T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has started light batting practice at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after having surgery for a sports hernia in Germany last month. He’s currently being looked after by BCCI’s medical team and is slowly increasing his training. If all goes well, he should be ready in time for the Asia Cup starting September 9 in the UAE.
Originally, Suryakumar was expected to return for the T20 series against Bangladesh in late August, but that tour has now been pushed to 2026. His most recent matches were in the Mumbai T20 League in June, where he scored 122 runs in four innings after the IPL season.
Although he was in talks to join the West Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, he’s likely to miss that tournament. India’s squad will head to the UAE in early September, while West Zone doesn’t play until September 4. To get match-ready, Suryakumar may play a few practice games and go through special simulation sessions at the Centre of Excellence during the final week of his recovery.
The Asia Cup is the beginning of India’s build-up to the T20 World Cup in 2026, which they’ll co-host with Sri Lanka. If he takes part, it’ll be Suryakumar’s first major tournament as India’s T20 captain since replacing Rohit Sharma after their World Cup win last year.
