Shikhar Dhawan: A Glorious 14-Year Journey of Cricketing Excellence

Cricketer’s journey from under-19 to record-breaking achievements in International Cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan has recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and he took to social media to declare the news. Well, the fans surely gonna miss his presence in the upcoming matches he has spent 14 years in the cricket world and He was named 'Player of the Tournament' in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and was India's top run scorer at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan, known for his aggressive batting style and signature moustache, has been a standout player in Indian cricket.
Beyond his international achievements, Dhawan also shone in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for several teams and was often among the top run scorers. His retirement marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to inspire young cricketers. Dhawan's journey in cricket is a testament to his dedication, skill, and passion for the game.
International Cricket Career
In 2010 October he made his debut in International cricket where selectors selected him for the  "second string" squad for the three-match ODI series held against Australia. Captain MS Dhoni showed confidence in Dhawan in spite of high competition like Sehwag, Tendulkar, and Gambhir. On 20 October 2010, he made his debut but was dismissed for a duck in his first innings.
But in 2011, June when regular openers like Sehwag and Gambhir were injured and Sachin Tendulkar was resting Dhawan was included in India's limited-overs squad for a tour of the West Indies. Finally in T20I on 4 Jun he made his debut and scored 5 runs, In the second ODI, he contributed 51 runs, helping India to a victory. However, his performance in the remaining ODIs of the series was less impressive, with scores of 3, 4, and 11.
Test debut and Champions Trophy
In 2012-13 he had a strong domestic season, he was called up for the Indian test squad for the match that was going to be against Australia in February 2013. He was going to be the third-choice opener after Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay, Dhawan was given his debut in the third Test at Mohali. At that match, he scored 187 scores including the fastest century on Test debut, off 85 balls. Because of that he also earned a Man of the Match award for making the Shikhar Dhawan centuries and was later named the Best Test Batting Performance of 2013. However, he missed the fourth Test due to a hand injury.
Dhawan made a successful comeback during the 2013 IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 311 runs in 10 matches. His form earned him a spot in the Indian ODI squad for the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England. Opening the batting with Rohit Sharma, Dhawan excelled, scoring 363 runs in 5 matches. He made two centuries, including a memorable 114 in the opening match against South Africa and an unbeaten 102 against the West Indies. Dhawan was instrumental in India's successful campaign, winning the Golden Bat as the tournament's top run-scorer and being named Player of the Tournament.
Big Match Player
In 2013, Shikhar Dhawan had a great year in cricket. During a triangular series in the West Indies, he scored 135 runs in five games, including a half-century against the West Indies. India won the series, and Dhawan added 16 runs in the final match. On the tour of Zimbabwe, Dhawan was outstanding, leading the series with 209 runs at an average of 52.25. He scored his third ODI century in the second match, earning the Man of the Match award for his 116 runs.
Dhawan's impressive form continued on the India A tour of South Africa, where he scored a record-breaking 248 runs off 150 balls in a List A match against South Africa A. This innings, which included 30 fours and seven sixes, was lauded by South Africa A captain Justin Ontong as one of the best he had ever seen. Dhawan also scored 62 in the final against Australia A, finishing as the highest run-scorer of the series with 410 runs at an average of 102.50.
In the October-November series against Australia, Dhawan scored 284 runs in seven ODIs at an average of 56.80. He played crucial innings, including a 95 in Jaipur and a 100 in Nagpur, both of which contributed to successful run-chases. Dhawan also scored a match-winning 119 in the third ODI against the West Indies, further solidifying his form. 
For his outstanding performances throughout the year, Dhawan was named in both the ICC World ODI XI and the ESPNcricinfo ODI XI for 2013.
