Renuka, Amanjot make India’s World Cup team, Shafali misses out
India's Women's Cricket team announced their squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, selecting Pratika Rawal over Shafali Verma. Experienced pacer Renuka Singh and key all-rounder Amanjot Kaur have returned to fitness just in time for the women’s ODI World Cup.
Fast bowler Renuka Singh and allrounder Amanjot Kaur are back in India’s squad for the Women’s World Cup after recovering from injuries. Renuka had been out since December 2024 due to a stress fracture, while Amanjot missed the last two ODIs against England because of back pain.
Shafali Verma, who hasn’t been part of India’s ODI plans since last year, is still not selected. Tejal Hasnabis, Shuchi Upadhyay, and Sayali Satghare who played in the recent England series are also not in the final 15-member squad.
Amanjot won’t play in the three ODIs against Australia before the World Cup. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said she’s at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence working on minor fitness issues. Renuka will play in that series, which begins on September 14 in New Chandigarh. Sayali Satghare will also play those matches, but will be replaced by Amanjot for the World Cup.
Amanjot has become an important all-rounder for India, and her return is a boost for the team. Renuka’s comeback strengthens the pace attack just in time for the big tournament.
