Peter Moor, a cricketer from Ireland and Zimbabwe, has decided to retire
Ireland's wicketkeeper batter Peter Moor has announced his retirement from international cricket. He played 7 tests for Ireland & represented Zimbabwe national team in 8 Tests, 49 ODIs and 21 T20Is.
Peter Moor, the Ireland cricketer originally from Harare, has retired at the age of 35 after a career that spanned across two nations. He featured in 15 Tests, 49 ODIs, and 21 T20Is in total, starting his international journey with Zimbabwe before switching allegiance to Ireland.
Moor made his ODI debut in 2014 against Bangladesh and followed that up with his T20I and Test debuts in 2016, facing Afghanistan and New Zealand, respectively. All his limited-overs matches and eight of his Tests were played for Zimbabwe, where he had a solid record averaging 35.53 with five fifties.
In October 2022, Moor qualified to represent Ireland, thanks to his Irish passport through his paternal grandmother. He was first picked for Ireland's Test tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in early 2023. Over time, he added seven more Tests to his name in Ireland colours. Before his debut for Ireland, he shared in an interview that he still believed he had “three or four years of good cricket” left and hoped to represent Ireland in a World Cup though he never featured in ODIs or T20Is for them.
His form dipped slightly after the switch averaging just 14.35 in Tests for Ireland, with one fifty. Notably, that half-century came in a win against Zimbabwe in July 2024, making it a fitting highlight in his journey across both teams.
Moor’s retirement makes him one of only 17 cricketers to play Test matches for two different countries a rare feat that reflects both his adaptability and international experience.
