Noman Ali's Eight-Wicket Haul Leads Pakistan to Dominant Victory

Noman Ali's Eight-Wicket Haul Leads Pakistan to Dominant Victory

Sajid Khan and Noman Ali picked all 20 England wickets between them, which is only the second time that two spinners have done it in Test cricket.

A used pitch and spin turned out to be England's undoing, as Pakistan broke their 11-match winless streak at home (which included seven losses) since March 2022 with a 152-run victory in the second Test in Multan. Starting Day 4 at 36/2, England were bowled out for 144, with Noman Ali taking a career-best 8 for 46 and a total of 11 wickets in the match – his first-ever 10-wicket haul.
Pakistan struck early, with Sajid taking a catch off his own bowling in the second over to dismiss Ollie Pope. Noman followed up by trapping Joe Root lbw, leaving England struggling at 55/4. Ben Stokes and Harry Brook tried to put together a partnership, but Noman struck again, trapping Brook lbw. England were soon 88/6 when Noman got Jamie Smith out with a top-edged slog-sweep.
Stokes continued playing positively, and Brydon Carse hit two back-to-back sixes off Sajid as England crossed 100. However, Stokes was stumped off Noman shortly after, ending a 37-run partnership. Carse hit his third six but was caught at slip, giving Noman his sixth wicket. Noman then dismissed Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir to complete his eight-wicket haul.
Pakistan's win was set up by a strong first-innings performance with both bat and ball. Kamran Ghulam, replacing Babar Azam, scored a century on debut, while Saim Ayub contributed 77, helping Pakistan reach 366. Ben Duckett scored a century in England's reply, but the rest of the batting failed, as Sajid's seven wickets bowled them out for 291, giving Pakistan a 75-run lead.
On a spinning pitch, effectively an eighth-day wicket by the time Pakistan batted again, Agha Salman's 63 helped Pakistan score 221, setting England a target of 297. It proved too much for England, as Noman dominated their batting on the fourth morning.
Pakistan 366 (Ghulam 118, Ayub 77, Leach 4-114) and 221 (Salman 63, Bashir 4-66) beat England 291 (Duckett 114, Sajid 7-111) and 144 (Noman 8-46) by 152 runs
