Lucknow Super Giants knocked out as Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully chase 205
IPL 2025: LSG’s campaign ends IPL playoff race as SRH’s Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen complete a 200-plus target at Ekana Stadium.
In a crucial match to keep their playoff hopes alive, Lucknow Super Giants lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Abhishek Sharma scored a quick 59 runs off 20 balls, while the other SRH players helped chase down the target of 206 runs, marking the highest successful chase in IPL history at this venue. Mitchell Marsh scored 65 and Aiden Markram scored 61 for LSG, but their efforts were not enough.
As a result, Lucknow Super Giants are now out of the playoff race, leaving only the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals competing for the last remaining spot.
Lucknow Super Giants Innings
Lucknow Super Giants came out firing, with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram leading the charge in the PowerPlay. Marsh wasted no time, smashing boundaries off Pat Cummins and Harsh Dubey, setting the tone for an aggressive start. Markram joined in, capitalizing on a dropped catch to punish the bowlers further. By the end of the first six overs, LSG had raced to 69/0, one of their best PowerPlay performances in Lucknow.
As the innings progressed, Sunrisers Hyderabad fought back. Zeeshan Ansari tightened his lines, restricting the batters from playing freely. Marsh reached his fifty but was soon dismissed by Dubey, marking the young bowler’s first IPL wicket. Markram continued to anchor the innings, reaching his fifth half-century of the season, but SRH’s bowlers slowed the scoring rate. Eshan Malinga’s clever variations troubled Rishabh Pant, eventually leading to his dismissal. LSG struggled to maintain their early momentum as SRH’s bowlers took pace off the ball and forced errors.
In the final overs, Nicholas Pooran attempted to accelerate, but SRH’s bowlers kept things tight. However, extras from Harshal Patel, including no-balls and wides, undid Malinga’s disciplined effort. The last over was chaotic, with multiple run-outs and boundaries helping LSG push past the 200-run mark. Despite their strong start, the hosts finished at 205/7, leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad with a challenging chase ahead.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings
Sunrisers Hyderabad matched Lucknow Super Giants' aggressive start, with Abhishek Sharma leading the charge in the PowerPlay. He smashed boundaries alongside Atharva Taide and Ishan Kishan, helping SRH reach 72/1 in the first six overs. Taide fell early, but Abhishek continued his onslaught, surviving a tough chance and capitalizing on loose deliveries.
In the middle overs, Abhishek took Ravi Bishnoi apart, hammering four sixes in a single over to bring up his fifty. However, Digvesh Rathi struck back, dismissing him to slow SRH’s momentum. Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen kept the chase alive with quick boundaries, but Kishan fell attempting a reverse sweep. Kamindu Mendis then stepped up, finding gaps and playing elegant strokes to keep SRH on track.
With only 35 runs needed, Klaasen and Mendis played cautiously, rotating the strike before Klaasen fell for 47. A brief scare followed as Mendis retired hurt with a hamstring issue, but Aniket Verma and Nitish Kumar Reddy finished the job with a flurry of boundaries. SRH comfortably chased 206 in 18.2 overs, knocking LSG out of the tournament.
