KL Rahul leads RCB to another defeat in Bengaluru
IPL 2025: The Delhi Capitals registered their fourth consecutive win, beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
A strong bowling performance from Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam, along with a brilliant unbeaten 93 from KL Rahul, led Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB got off to a quick start on a tough pitch, but steady spin bowling in the middle overs slowed them down. They kept losing wickets, and if it weren't for Tim David's big finish, they wouldn’t have even gotten to the 163 runs for 7 wickets that they scored after batting first.
DC had a shaky start in their chase, but Rahul’s classy 93 off 53 balls, combined with a solid unbroken 111-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs for the fifth wicket, helped them secure the win easily. This victory marked Delhi’s first-ever 4-0 start to an IPL season, while RCB continued to look for a win at home.
RCB Innings Summary:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru got off to a great start, thanks to Phil Salt's explosive hitting, which included two sixes and three fours in a 30-run over off Starc. However, the momentum stalled when Salt was run out in the fourth over, followed by Mukesh Kumar’s wicket-maiden to restore control for Delhi.
The middle phase was all about Delhi’s spinners, with Kuldeep Yadav leading the charge, dismissing Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar as RCB lost wickets regularly and struggled for fluency.
Despite the slowdown, Tim David’s late blitz—four sixes and two fours in the last two overs—pushed RCB past 160, ensuring they had something to defend. Kuldeep (2/17) and Nigam (2/18) were the standout bowlers for Delhi, keeping RCB in check for most of the innings.
Delhi Capitals Innings Summary:
Despite an early setback with three wickets in the powerplay, Delhi Capitals recovered thanks to Rahul’s composed fifty and a strong partnership with Tristan Stubbs. RCB’s pacers—Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal—struck early, leaving DC at 39/3 after the first six overs.
However, Rahul led the fightback, smashing boundaries at crucial moments, including a 21-run over off Hazlewood that put DC ahead in DLS calculations. As drizzle threatened, he kept the scoreboard ticking, ensuring momentum stayed with the Capitals.
In the death overs, the Rahul-Stubbs century stand sealed RCB’s fate, with Stubbs accelerating in the 16th over and Rahul finishing the chase in just 18 overs. The Capitals won in commanding fashion, keeping RCB winless at home.
