Keshav Maharaj moves to first place in men's ODI bowling rankings
Maharaj reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men's ODI Bowlers Rankings, replacing Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana.
South Africa's left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has taken the top spot as the No. 1 men's ODI bowler, replacing Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana, after he took five wickets in the first ODI against Australia in Cairns.
Maharaj, who was last in the top spot in November 2023, has regained his position by moving up two places, putting him ahead of Theekshana in second and Kuldeep Yadav from India in third. The 35-year-old achieved his best ODI performance with figures of 5 for 33, helping South Africa secure a 98-run victory and a 1-0 lead in the series.
South African batters Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma have climbed up the ODI rankings after scoring half-centuries in the first match against Australia. Markram moved up four places to No. 21, while Bavuma jumped five spots to No. 23.
In the recently finished ODI series between West Indies and Pakistan, West Indies captain Shai Hope moved up two places to No. 9 among batters. He was the top scorer in the series with 207 runs and helped his team win 2-1. His teammate Jayden Seales also had a great series, taking 10 wickets and jumping 15 spots to No. 18 in the bowling rankings.
In the T20I series between Australia and South Africa, fast bowler Nathan Ellis moved up three places to No. 9 after taking 3 wickets for 31 runs in the third match. Josh Hazlewood, who took the most wickets for Australia in the series, rose two spots to No. 18.
South Africa’s power-hitter Dewald Brevis made a big move in the T20I batting rankings. He jumped nine places to reach No. 12 after scoring an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls in the first match and 53 off 26 in the second.
