Joe Root Reclaims ICC Test Batting Crown as Boland's Hat-Trick Launches Him into Top Ten
England's Premier batter Joe Root has reclaimed the top position in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings after his 37th Test century helped England claim a 22-runs victory at Lord's.
Joe Root is back at No. 1 in the ICC men's Test batting rankings after scoring 104 and 40 in England’s close win over India at Lord’s. His teammate Harry Brook, who had a quiet match with scores of 11 and 23, dropped to No. 3, while Kane Williamson moved up to second.
India’s Shubman Gill slipped from sixth to ninth after a rough outing, and Rishabh Pant also dropped one spot to eighth, even though he scored 74 in the first innings. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja both climbed five places in the rankings after solid performances Rahul made a century and Jadeja hit fifties in both innings. They now sit at 34th and 35th, respectively.
Australia’s Steve Smith moved up to fourth in the rankings after a steady 48 against West Indies. He passed Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a tough Test at Lord’s with scores of 13 and 0 his first match without a fifty against England.
In the bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah held onto the top spot after taking five wickets against England. Scott Boland jumped six spots to No. 6, thanks to his six wickets and a hat-trick against West Indies. Mitchell Starc stayed at No. 10 after his stunning 6 for 9, but also moved up two places in the allrounder rankings, which are still led by Jadeja.
