Jadeja has violated BCCI rules, but don’t expect any penalties

IND vs ENG 2nd Test: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja broke the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) guidelines on the second day of the second Test match against England. he arrived early at Edgbaston on Day 2 to get in some extra batting before play began.

On a pitch that favoured batters, Ravindra Jadeja almost reached his half-century and was ready to celebrate with his famous sword dance. However, luck wasn’t on his side just 11 runs before a well-earned hundred, he was caught out by a strong delivery from England bowler Josh Tongue, getting out for 89. This was one of those moments where the bowler deserved all the credit. Nonetheless, Jadeja had a huge impact on the game even before losing his wicket.
His partnership with Shubman Gill played an important role. Together, they put up an impressive stand of 203 runs, taking India from a tricky position at 210/5 to over 500, which put the team in control. The way both players balanced caution and skill made their partnership not only successful but also a joy to watch.
After the innings, Jadeja spoke with calm satisfaction. “Whenever you're able to contribute with the bat, especially when playing overseas, it feels great. The team needs you more, and that brings a sense of responsibility,” he said. Being part of the recovery from 210/5 wasn’t just a task it was a challenge he embraced. “When you bat with the captain and build a long partnership, it boosts your confidence not just for this game but for future matches too.”
It’s that mindset that has made Jadeja one of India’s most reliable all-rounders: he sees every situation not as pressure, but as opportunity.
And what’s an India vs England match without a bit of spice? Jadeja, known for getting under English skins, did just that once again. His style of playing forward and dashing straight down the pitch visibly annoyed England skipper Ben Stokes, who kept complaining to the umpires that Jadeja was damaging the surface near the stumps often referred to as the "danger area."
Jadeja calmly responded later, saying, “Stokes felt I was creating rough patches for myself. But fast bowlers were already doing that I didn’t need to. Maybe I ran there by mistake once or twice, but I didn’t do it intentionally.” His statement reflected both clarity and poise. It’s clear he wasn’t rattled by the tension and instead focused on the job at hand.
Despite India grabbing three early wickets after taking the new ball, Jadeja noted that the pitch wasn’t offering much help it stayed straight, and there was little movement for the bowlers. He emphasised the importance of discipline, creative field placements, and sustained energy to achieve breakthroughs. It wasn’t a surface where magic could be expected; it required relentless effort.
Interestingly, Jadeja pointed out that the team wasn’t too focused on the final result at that stage. The main goal was to bowl with the same spirit and commitment on day three, trusting the process instead of getting caught up in predictions.
