Jadeja and Sundar's Twin Wickets Halt NZ's Solid Start Ends at 235

Jadeja and Sundar's Twin Wickets Halt NZ's Solid Start Ends at 235

Jadeja pegged New Zealand back with five quick wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja (5-65) & Washington Sundar's tight bowling (4-81) helped India stay level with New Zealand on the opening morning of the third Test in Mumbai.
New Zealand, who chose to bat first, lost Devon Conway early. However, Tom Latham (28), Will Young (71) and Daryl Mitchell (82) steadied the innings with a 87-run partnership for the second wicket. Both looked settled at the crease until Sundar’s entry. The off-spinner made an impact right away, troubling both batters and eventually dismissed Latham and then Rachin Ravindra, providing much-needed relief for India.
Despite the wickets, Young continued batting steadily alongside Daryl Mitchell, ensuring no further losses for New Zealand.
With Jasprit Bumrah out due to illness, the new ball responsibilities fell to Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. Akash Deep bowled well, managing to trap Conway LBW within the first 30 minutes. While there wasn’t much help for the fast bowlers, the initial moisture in the pitch offered a bit of movement. Latham and Young handled this well and were initially comfortable against spin, as Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t trouble them much.
Sundar, however, continued his good form, consistently challenging the batters with his drift. He eventually bowled a superb delivery to dismiss Latham, who misjudged the line and lost his stumps. A few overs later, Sundar bowled another similar delivery to remove Ravindra, who was also outdone by the slight drift and movement off the pitch.
As the session went on, the pitch began to offer more help to the spinners. Ravindra Jadeja got some deliveries to sharply turn past the bat, hinting that the second session might be tough for New Zealand.
