IPL Stakeholders’ Summit with BCCI Ends Over Auction Format in Mumbai

Ahead of the mega auction, IPL franchise owners held a meeting with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials on Wednesday. All the issues ranging from mega auction to impact player rules were discussed.

The most awaited meeting in Mumbai with IPL team owners and the cricket board, BCCI, finished yesterday. They had a heated discussion about the big-player auction. The teams want a smaller auction and to keep more of their current players. The meeting went on for more than two hours at the cricket board's office on Wednesday.
Every team's owner was there, and the Mumbai Indians team joined in online. At the meeting, Many voices were raised against the Mega auction and the main advocates of this discontinuation were the Sunrisers Hyderabad's Kavya Maran, and Kolkata Knight Riders's Shah Rukh Khan as well as the two finalists of the IPL 2024. The teams argue that keeping the same players is key to creating a strong brand and keeping fans interested.
As per the sources, Shah Khan has boldly pointed out the case against the mega auction. Not only that, the KKR owner also seems to be engaged in a heated argument at a point with Ness Wadia who is the co-owner of Punjab Kings on the topic number of retentions.
After the meeting, Wadia clarified that there was no bad blood with the KKR owner. "Shah Rukh and I go way back, over 25 years. There's no bad feeling between us," said the Punjab Kings co-owner, choosing not to comment on his team's stance. "Everyone shared their thoughts and had different views. Ultimately, you have to consider everyone involved and make the best decision for the group. That's what really matters," he explained.
The SRH owner, Maran, agreed with KKR, preferring a smaller auction over a larger one. She believes that creating a strong team and helping young players grow takes a lot of time and effort. "Abhishek Sharma took three years to deliver consistent performances," she pointed out, suggesting that other teams have likely had similar experiences.
And after a long discussion, BCCI released a statement stating, that they received input from the IPL team owners about player rules and business matters like merchandising, licensing, and gaming. They will now discuss these suggestions with the IPL Governing Council to decide on the player regulations.
