England’s Harry Brook has reclaimed the number 1 spot in the Test batters' in ICC rankings after scoring 158 in the first innings at Edgbaston. He replaced his teammate Joe Root to reclaim the top spot.
Harry Brook, the England batter, has become the top-ranked batter in the world as per the ICC ranking, as he has been able to score 158 runs in the first inning. Harry Brook has jumped to the top of the ICC Test batting rankings, overtaking teammate Joe Root, who now holds the second spot. Brook leads by 18 points after his strong showing in the Edgbaston Test. India’s Test captain Shubman Gill also made headlines by scoring 269 and 161 in the second Test against England, helping India win by 336 runs. His performance lifted him 15 places to No. 6 in the rankings with a career-best 807 rating points.
Filling out the top five are New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in third, India’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal in fourth, and Australia’s Steve Smith in fifth.
Jamie Smith, England’s wicketkeeper-batter, broke into the top 10 for the first time. His unbeaten 184, followed by an 88 in the second innings, helped him climb 16 places to No. 10. He shared a crucial stand with Brook after England were struggling at 84 for 5 in the first innings.
In the South African camp, Wiaan Mulder produced a jaw-dropping 367 not out against Zimbabwe. That incredible knock pushed him up 34 places to No. 22 in the batters’ list and also launched him to No. 3 in the allrounders’ rankings, with India’s Ravindra Jadeja still at No. 1.
In the ODI rankings, Sri Lanka’s duo of Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka were rewarded for their match-winning efforts in the 2-1 series win over Bangladesh. Kusal smashed 225 runs across the series, including scores of 124 and 56, earning the Player-of-the-Series award and vaulting ten spots into the top 10. Asalanka, who hit 106 and 58 in two of the matches, moved up to No. 6 in the rankings.
