Batting group leads RR to victory in IPL 2025
IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel, and bowlers lead RR to dominant six-wicket victory over CSK.
RR confirmed their win yesterday, and all credit goes to the batting partnership of Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57 off 33), Sanju Samson (41 off 31), Yashasvi Jaiswal (36 off 19) and Dhruv Jurel (31* off 12). It was another disappointing season as they successfully chased down CSK's score of 187/8 with 17 balls and six wickets remaining. CSK got some good contributions from Ayush Mhatre (43 runs off 20 balls) and Dewald Brevis (42 runs off 25 balls), but their poor finishing and weak bowling hurt them again.
RR finished their season in ninth place with eight points. However, they might still end up in last place since CSK, in tenth place with 6 points, has one more game to play.
CSK’s Innings
Chennai Super Kings started aggressively despite early setbacks, with Ayush Mhatre leading the charge. He smashed boundaries, pushing CSK to their best PowerPlay total of the season at 68/3. Rajasthan Royals struck twice in the second over, dismissing Devon Conway and Urvil Patel, but Mhatre and R Ashwin countered with big hits before Mhatre fell for a quick 43.
In the middle overs, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube rebuilt the innings, attacking RR’s bowlers and keeping the run rate high. Brevis played a fiery knock of 42 before Akash Madhwal’s yorker sent him back. RR slowed CSK’s momentum with disciplined bowling, restricting big shots.
In the final overs, Dube and MS Dhoni aimed for a strong finish, but RR’s bowlers tightened their grip. Madhwal and Tushar Deshpande bowled brilliantly, limiting CSK to just one boundary in the last three overs. Dube and Dhoni fell in the 20th over, and CSK finished at 187/8, falling short of a 200-plus total.
Rajasthan Royals Innings
Rajasthan Royals chased confidently, with Yashasvi Jaiswal setting the tone early. He smashed boundaries off Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed, racing to 56/1 in the PowerPlay. Vaibhav Suryavanshi supported him well before falling for 36, while Sanju Samson kept the momentum going.
In the middle overs, Suryavanshi and Samson continued attacking, punishing Noor Ahmad and Ravichandran Ashwin. Suryavanshi reached his fifty in style, but Ashwin struck back with a double-wicket over, dismissing both set batters. Dhruv Jurel stepped in, immediately hitting Jadeja for a six and a four, keeping RR in control.
In the final overs, Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer finished the chase with ease. Despite Noor Ahmad dismissing Riyan Parag, RR remained dominant. Jurel and Hetmyer smashed boundaries, and Jurel sealed the win with a six off Matheesha Pathirana on the first ball of the 18th over. RR comfortably chased 188, securing victory with nearly three overs to spare.
