WPL 2026 Auction build-up:
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction will see a total of 276 players divided into 39 sets. The spotlight is on the Marquee set of eight players, which includes big names like Deepti Sharma, Alyssa Healy, Laura Wolvaardt, Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Amelia Kerr, Meg Lanning, and India’s Renuka Singh.
Among them, Renuka Singh has a base price of INR 40 lakh, Laura Wolvaardt at INR 30 lakh, while the others are listed at INR 50 lakh.
In total, 19 players have chosen the highest reserve price bracket, such as Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Uma Chetry, Pooja Vastrakar, and Georgia Wareham.
Across the five franchises, there are 73 slots available, including 23 for overseas players. The pool features 83 overseas cricketers, 155 uncapped players, and four from Associate nations.
India has the largest number of entrants with 194 players, followed by Australia (23) and England (22).
The UP Warriorz head into the auction with the biggest purse of INR 14.5 crore, having retained only Shweta Sehrawat. They also hold four of the eight Right to Match (RTM) cards available in this auction.
Purse amount available (INR crore)
1. UP Warriorz- 14.50
2. Gujarat Giants- 9.00
3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru- 6.15
4. Mumbai Indians- 5.75
5. Delhi Capitals- 5.70
Retentions and releases, recap:
The Gujarat Giants (GG) and UP Warriorz (UPW) made the boldest decisions on retention day. GG released Laura Wolvaardt despite her strong World Cup performances. With only two overseas slots available, they chose to keep Australians Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner. UP Warriorz went for a complete reset, retaining just one player. This meant big names like India’s top allrounder Deepti Sharma and Australia captain Alyssa Healy were let go.
On the other hand, India’s marquee stars Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Jemimah Rodrigues were all retained as expected. Among other notable moves, the Delhi Capitals released skipper Meg Lanning after three straight finals. They held on to Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland, and Niki Prasad.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians showed faith in young talent G Kamalini and retained Nat Sciver-Brunt at a higher price than their captain, Harmanpreet Kaur.
