WI wins a nail-biting super over to tie the series.

WI wins a nail-biting super over to tie the series.

Rishad Hossain gave a brilliant all-round performance, but it wasn’t enough as West Indies edged past Bangladesh in a thrilling Super Over to win the second ODI in Dhaka and level the series 1-1.

Shai Hope’s calm and unbeaten 53 off 67 balls helped West Indies tie the match, and Akeal Hosein held his nerve in the Super Over to defend 11 runs.

West Indies were chasing 214 but got off to a poor start, losing Brandon King for zero in the very first over. Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty then built a slow but steady partnership to settle things. But Rishad Hossain dismissed both batters leg-before, triggering a collapse that saw West Indies slump to 133 for 7 by the 34th over.

Hope then took charge, building useful partnerships with Justin Greaves and Hosein. With three runs needed off the last two balls, Saif Hasan bowled out Hosein, leaving No. 11 Khary Pierre to finish the job. Pierre top-edged a wild swing, and although the keeper had the ball covered, he dropped it. The batters ran two and tied the match.

In the Super Over, Sherfane Rutherford couldn’t get going against Mustafizur Rahman’s clever slower balls. The last delivery took Hope’s edge and raced to the boundary, giving West Indies 10 runs.

Bangladesh started their Super Over wellHosein bowled a wide and then overstepped, giving away extra runs. With only six needed off five balls, Bangladesh looked in control. But Hosein’s flat, fast deliveries were tough to hit, and Bangladesh fell short by two runs, ending on nine.

Earlier in the day, West Indies made history by bowling all 50 overs with spin—the first time ever in ODIs. They dropped their fast bowlers and went all-in with spinners, and the gamble paid off.

Soumya Sarkar attacked early, but Saif Hasan struggled before hitting a six off Hosein. He got out on the very next ball. Bangladesh found it hard to score freely, and wickets kept falling. Athanaze, surprisingly effective, took 2 for 14 in his full 10 overs.

Gudakesh Motie was the most dangerous spinner, taking out Towhid Hridoy, Nasum Ahmed, and Nurul Hasan to leave Bangladesh at 163 for 7 by the 46th over.

Rishad Hossain then gave Bangladesh a late boost, smashing two sixes and a four in the 49th over and adding more in the final over to push the total past 200. But despite his heroics, Bangladesh couldn’t close out the game and missed key chances at crucial moments.
