West Indies to have a six-day training camp in Ahmedabad before the Test series
West Indies vs India: The West Indies men’s cricket team, which is set to face Team India in a two-match Test series next month, will hold a six-day practice camp in Ahmedabad.
The West Indies team will hold a six-day training camp in Ahmedabad from September 24 to 29 before the two-Test series against India. The first Test will begin on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. According to Cricket West Indies (CWI), the team is confident about its performance, especially with its strong fast bowling unit.
The West Indies squad includes two specialist spinners vice-captain Jomel Warrican and newcomer Khary Pierre, both left-armers. Captain Roston Chase adds part-time off-spin. However, their main strength lies in pace, with Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Anderson Phillips leading the attack even though Indian pitches may favour spin.
The Indian team will gather in Ahmedabad on September 29. Some players, including captain Shubman Gill, may arrive from Dubai if India reaches the Asia Cup final. Others will come from Bengaluru, where they’ve been training at the Centre of Excellence. The Test squad is expected to be announced early next week.
This will be the final meeting for a couple of members of the current selection committee. After recent interviews, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh are expected to join the panel, while S Sharath is likely to step down. The second outgoing member hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Sharath is expected to return to the junior selection committee, replacing Tilak Naidu as its head. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), led by Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe, has also appointed two senior selectors, one junior selector, and four selectors for the national women’s team.
West Indies squad: Roston Chase (C), Kevlon Anderson, Jomel Warrican (VC), John Campbell, Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Shai Hope, Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Shamar Joseph, Anderson Phillip, Khary Pierre and Jayden Seales.
