West Indies T20I squad includes Jason Holder and Andre Russell for England series
The West Indies Cricket Board announced their T20I squads for the series against England and Ireland. Jason Holder, Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford have returned to the T20I squad. Jyd Goolie has received a maiden call-up for the Ireland T20I series.
The West Indies have brought back Jason Holder and Andre Russell for their T20I series against England. However, Nicholas Pooran won’t be playing, as he has asked to rest after his time in the IPL.
After finishing their ODI series against England at The Oval on Tuesday, West Indies will play three T20I matches against England. They will then head to Ireland for another three T20Is, though several players and coaches, including Russell, will be rested for that part of the tour.
Holder hasn’t played a T20I for West Indies since February 2024, as he missed last year’s World Cup due to injury. Russell last played against England in Barbados in November, but an ankle injury ruled him out for the rest of that series.
This will be the West Indies' first T20I series under their new captain, Shai Hope, who recently replaced Rovman Powell. Powell remains in the squad despite leading West Indies to a 3-0 defeat against Bangladesh in his final series as captain. However, all-rounders Justin Greaves, Shamar Springer, and Terrance Hinds were not selected.
Sherfane Rutherford returns to the squad after missing the Bangladesh series due to his participation in the Big Bash League, like Hope.
Keacy Carty is included only for the Ireland series, replacing Brandon King, who has been granted leave. New Test captain Roston Chase will also leave after the England series to prepare for the upcoming home Test series against Australia. Jyd Goolie, a former West Indies Under-19 player, has received his first call-up as Chase’s replacement.
West Indies will have a Test training camp in Barbados from June 13-21 before facing Australia in a Test series starting June 25. Head coach Daren Sammy and his assistants Floyd Reifer and Ravi Rampaul will also return home early, with Rayon Griffith taking charge for the Ireland T20Is.
West Indies' T20I squad for the England series:
Shai Hope (capt), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd.
