In a surprising move, veteran South African batsman Faf du Plessis has officially decided to skip the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. The former Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain has confirmed he will instead play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Du Plessis, who has been a major part of the IPL for 14 seasons, announced the decision on his social media, saying he felt it was the right time for a change.
Du Plessis stated that he wants to focus on "opportunities that allow me to manage my workload better" and that the PSL schedule works better for his physical management at this stage of his career. He described his move to the PSL as an "exciting step," calling it a chance to take on a "new country. A new environment. A new challenge."
The 41-year-old was a highly successful player in the IPL, winning two titles with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and captaining RCB for three seasons. He was recently released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction.
While the decision ends a long run in the world's most famous T20 league, Du Plessis made it clear that his love for India and the fans remains strong, saying, "India has a special place in my heart, and this certainly isn't goodbye."
