The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite 2025 Power-Hitting Day: Centuries and Crushing Wins

SMAT 2025: Karnataka scored a massive total, thanks to a century from Devdutt Padikkal, leading to the biggest win of the morning. Gujarat showed the strength of their bowling attack with an easy win, while Goa secured a good chase. The last morning game saw Odisha win a victory by stopping Chhattisgarh from chasing a manageable target.

1. Karnataka vs Tamil Nadu (Group D)

Karnataka won by a massive 145 runs

Karnataka batted brilliantly and set a huge score of 245 runs. The star was Devdutt Padikkal, who was simply unstoppable, hitting a fantastic 102 runs without losing his wicket. Facing this mountain of a score, Tamil Nadu’s batsmen struggled and were quickly bowled out, giving Karnataka a crushing win by 145 runs.

2. Gujarat vs Puducherry (Group C)

Gujarat won by 9 wickets

This was a quick match! Gujarat’s bowlers were outstanding, with Japagnya Bhatt and Ravi Bishnoi leading the charge. They bowled out Puducherry for a very low score of only 83 runs. Chasing the small target was no problem for Gujarat, who finished the game quickly and lost only one wicket.

3. Goa vs Madhya Pradesh (Group B)

Goa won by 7 wickets

Madhya Pradesh scored a tough total of 170 runs. Goa’s bowler Arjun Tendulkar helped keep the score in check by taking 3 important wickets. Goa's batsmen then performed well as a team, successfully getting the runs they needed with 7 wickets still in hand to secure a good win.

4. Odisha vs Chhattisgarh (Group A)

Odisha won by 27 runs

Odisha batted first and only managed to score 135 runs. This was a challenging total, but their bowlers did a great job. They kept the pressure on Chhattisgarh and stopped them from reaching the goal, winning the match by a strong 27 runs.
 

5. Baroda Vs Punjab

Baroda beat Punjab by 7 wickets

This was the comeback match everyone was waiting for. Punjab batted first and scored a huge 222 runs. Despite a tough bowling return for Hardik Pandya, he made up for it with the bat. Hardik came in during the chase and hit an amazing 77 runs not out off just 42 balls, powering Baroda to their highest-ever successful chase in T20 cricket.

6. Tripura Vs Delhi

Tripura beat Delhi by 12 runs

This was the surprise result of the day. Tripura scored 157 runs, which many thought wasn't enough against the strong Delhi team. However, Tripura’s bowlers fought hard and successfully kept Delhi from reaching the target. It was a fantastic defensive effort that secured a famous 12-run win for the underdog team.

7. Maharashtra Vs Bihar

Maharashtra beat Bihar by 3 wickets

This match featured a piece of history: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, scored a fantastic 100 runs for Bihar. However, his effort wasn't enough to secure the victory. Maharashtra successfully chased Bihar’s total of 177, winning the game comfortably by 3 wickets.

8. Andhra Vs Railways

Andhra beat Railways by 5 wickets

This was a close fight. Railways set a competitive score, and the chase was tense. Andhra’s batsmen kept their cool and managed to get the winning runs just before the end, securing a hard-fought 5-wicket victory.

9. Mumbai Vs Assam

Mumbai defeated Assam by 98 runs

Mumbai chose to bat first and put up a colossal total of 220 runs. The innings was defined by Sarfaraz Khan, who smashed an unforgettable 100 runs not out off just 47 balls. He was well supported by veteran Ajinkya Rahane (42).

Facing a target of 221, Assam's chase quickly collapsed. Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur delivered a devastating bowling spell, taking 5 wickets to completely dismantle the Assam batting line-up. Assam's entire team was bowled out for only 121 runs in 19.1 overs. Mumbai secured a dominant, comprehensive victory thanks to the star performances of Sarfaraz and Shardul.

10. J&K Vs Chandigarh

Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) beat Chandigarh by 29 runs

J&K batted first and posted a challenging total on the scoreboard. Their bowlers then delivered a brilliant team performance, successfully stopping Chandigarh's batsmen from reaching the target. J&K kept the pressure high throughout the chase, securing a clear victory by 29 runs in a great defensive effort.

11. Nagaland Vs Meghalaya

Nagaland beat Meghalaya by 58 runs

Nagaland batted first and set a competitive target of 140. Their innings was built around a solid fifty from Sedezhalie Rupero (53 runs). In the second innings, Nagaland's bowlers were outstanding! Nchumbemo Humtsoe, Imliwati Lemtur, and Akavi Yeptho all took two wickets each to completely dismantle the Meghalaya batting lineup, bowling them out for only 81 runs. This strong team effort secured a big 58-run victory for Nagaland.

12. Mizoram Vs Arunachal Pradesh

Mizoram beat Arunachal Pradesh by 58 runs

Mizoram batted first and had a great day with the bat, scoring a massive total of 186 runs. Captain Joseph Lalthankhuma helped lead the charge with 34 runs. In the second innings, Arunachal Pradesh could not handle the pressure of the huge target. Mizoram's bowlers, including B Lalnunfela and KC Cariappa who each took two wickets, kept the scoring rate low. Arunachal Pradesh finished their 20 overs well short of the goal, giving Mizoram a clear victory by 58 runs.

13. Bengal Vs Himachal Pradesh

Bengal beat Himachal Pradesh by 5 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)

This was a fantastic, high-scoring match! Himachal Pradesh batted first and put up a massive 208 runs, with Ekant Sen hitting an excellent 95 runs to anchor their innings.

Facing a huge target of 209, Bengal needed a strong start, and they got it from the top order. Opener Abishek Porel (41 runs) and captain Abhimanyu Easwaran (58 runs) both played brilliantly to set the platform. Though they lost five wickets, including a crucial one near the end, the middle and lower order ensured they crossed the finish line in the 19th over, securing a tense and exciting 5-wicket win. Shahbaz Ahmed also starred, taking three wickets for Bengal earlier in the game.

14. Jharkhand Vs Saurashtra

Jharkhand beat Saurashtra by 84 runs

This was a match controlled by Jharkhand from start to finish. They batted first and scored a huge total of 209 runs, thanks mainly to captain Ishan Kishan, who hit an aggressive 93 runs off 50 balls, just missing out on a century. Facing a massive target of 210, Saurashtra's chase quickly fell apart. Though Prerak Mankad tried hard with a fast 39 runs, he lacked support. Jharkhand's bowlers, especially Anukul Roy (3 wickets), completely dismantled the Saurashtra batting line-up, bowling them out well short of the goal and securing a big win by 84 runs.
