Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26: Fans Sees Record-Breaking Century and Last-Ball Drama

SMAT 2025: Gujarat's batter Urvil Patel slammed a 31-ball hundred in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 opener against Services. Patel breaks the top five of the fastest-ever T20 tons yet again. In the SMAT 2024 season, he slammed a 28-ball 100 against Tripura, putting him second on the list of the quickest T20 centuries.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26 began on November 26 with lots of exciting action. There were some big wins as well as close matches across India. Gujarat’s Urvil Patel was the star of the day, hitting a superb, record-breaking century. Other strong teams like Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka also started the tournament well with important wins.

Gujarat Defeats Services by 8 Wickets:

Services scored a decent total of 182/9 in their 20 overs. But Gujarat chased it easily, thanks to an incredible innings from Urvil Patel. Opening the batting, Patel smashed an unbeaten 119 off just 37 balls, with 12 fours and 10 sixes. Gujarat reached the target in only 12.3 overs. His powerful knock showed how strong Gujarat’s batting is and sent an early message to the other teams in the tournament.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Defeats Goa by 6 Wickets:

Chasing Goa's total of 172/9, UP's chase was anchored by opener Aryan Juyal, who remained unbeaten on 93 runs off 57 balls. Along with Sameer Rizvi (38 off 26), Juyal guided UP to victory with 10 balls to spare in which UP's star pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was effective and economical, picking up two crucial wickets to restrict Goa to 172/9, marking a strong start in Elite Group B.

Mumbai Defeats Railways by 7 Wickets:

In Elite Group A, the star-studded Mumbai side successfully chased down Railways' total of 158/5. Mumbai secured the win with relative ease, thanks to captain Ajinkya Rahane, who was named the Player of the Match for his guiding performance in the successful chase.

Chhattisgarh Defeats Vidarbha by 27 Runs:

In a low-scoring match in Elite Group A, Chhattisgarh successfully defended a modest total of 133/9. Their bowlers close the Vidarbha line-up, bowling them out for just 106. Ravi Kiran was outstanding today, picking up 2/10 and earning the Player of the Match award for his role in securing the 27-run victory.

Karnataka Defeats Uttarakhand by 5 Wickets (Last Ball Win):

In one of the most exciting finishes, Karnataka beats Uttarakhand in Elite Group D. Chasing Uttarakhand's competitive total of 197/5, Karnataka held their nerve to cross the finish line on the very last ball of the match, winning by five wickets.

Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Defeats Maharashtra by 5 Wickets:

In Elite Group B, J&K registered an impressive win, chasing down Maharashtra's total of 130 runs. A strong collective effort, highlighted by Abid Mushtaq's performance, ensured a 5-wicket victory for the J&K side.

Punjab Defeats Himachal Pradesh by 5 Wickets:

Himachal Pradesh set a target of 147/8, but Punjab efficiently chased it down with 5 wickets in hand. Harpreet Brar was named the Player of the Match.

Saurashtra Defeats Tripura by 4 Wickets:

Elite Group D saw Saurashtra clinch a tight win against Tripura. After bowling out Tripura for 123, Saurashtra managed to chase the target successfully with four wickets remaining, with pace bowler Chetan Sakariya being named the Player of the Match.

Mizoram Defeats Nagaland by 16 Runs:

Mizoram posted a challenging 198/6 and managed to restrict Nagaland to 182/9, securing a 16-run victory. KC Cariappa earned the Player of the Match award.

Meghalaya Defeats Sikkim by 9 Runs:

Meghalaya defended a score of 190/7 to win by 9 runs, with Kishan Lyngdoh taking the Player of the Match honours.

Kerala vs Odisha: Kerala won by 10 wickets

Odisha posted a competitive 176/7. Kerala then chased down the target effortlessly, reaching 177/0 in just 16 overs. Kerala opener Rohan Kunnummal was exceptional in the chase.

Madhya Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Hyderabad won by 5 wickets with 11 balls remaining.

In a competitive Elite Group B clash, Hyderabad successfully chased down Madhya Pradesh's total of 144/9, winning by 5 wickets with 11 balls remaining. Rahul Buddhi was awarded Player of the Match for his vital contribution.

Rajasthan Vs Tamil Nadu: Rajasthan Dominates Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu posted a challenging 169/8, built around useful knocks from Sonu Yadav (43) and Narayan Jagadeesan (29). Rajasthan's bowling attack was led well by pacer Ashok Sharma (3/40) and spinner Manav Suthar (2/22).

In the chase, Rajasthan's experienced all-rounder Deepak Hooda took charge, smashing an unbeaten 76 runs off just 36 deliveries (including 6 sixes) to ensure a high-speed victory. His aggressive approach meant Rajasthan wrapped up the chase in just 16.3 overs, securing a convincing 6-wicket win.

Puducherry Vs Haryana: Puducherry Edges Haryana in Thriller

Puducherry put up a massive total of 201/9, fueled by a stunning innings from Pougajendy Akash, who smashed 60 runs off just 23 deliveries (including 6 sixes). Haryana's bowling, which included Yuzvendra Chahal (0/46), struggled to contain the early onslaught.

In reply, Haryana launched an aggressive chase, led brilliantly by opener Arsh Ranga, who scored a magnificent 90 runs off 47 balls. However, Puducherry captain Aman Khan turned the match on its head with the ball, picking up four crucial wickets for just 28 runs (4/28), ensuring Haryana fell short, finishing at 196/6 and giving Puducherry the dramatic 5-run win.

Manipur Vs Arunachal Pradesh: Manipur Crushes Arunachal Pradesh

Manipur set a massive target of 208 for Arunachal Pradesh. The foundation was laid by captain Langlonyamba Meitan Keishangbam, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 56 runs off 40 balls. He received aggressive late support from Kangabam Priyojit (48 off 14 balls), ensuring Manipur crossed the 200-run mark.

Facing a daunting chase, Arunachal Pradesh struggled to build partnerships, being bowled out for just 117. Manipur's bowlers were highly effective, with Pheiroijam Jotin leading the pack by claiming three wickets for only 23 runs, cementing the huge 90-run victory.

Andhra Vs Assam: 
Andhra secured a crucial 29-run victory over Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bhui was named the Player of the Match for his aggressive and vital knock of 46 runs off just 35 balls, which included 5 fours and 1 six.

Bihar Vs Chandigarh: Raj Bawa shines as Chandigarh clinch a six-wicket victory over Bihar.

Bawa delivered a sensational all-round display, first with the ball by picking up two crucial wickets, then finished the match in style, scoring an unbeaten 36 runs off just 22 balls to guide his team home. Chandigarh Team opener and ex skipper Manan Vohra, who anchored the innings with a solid half-century, scoring 50 runs off 40 balls. The contributions from both Vohra and Bawa ensured a comfortable victory for Chandigarh.

Baroda Vs Bengal: Bengal secured a comfortable six-wicket victory against Baroda after winning the toss and electing to field first, successfully chasing down the target with power-hitting from Abishek Porel. The wicket-keeper batsman Porel was declared player of the match, who dismantled the opposition's bowling attack, smashing a sensational 50 runs off just 24 balls.

Delhi Vs Jharkhand: Jharkhand defeated Delhi by seven wickets in a T20 clash, securing a comfortable victory driven by an excellent all-round performance by Utkarsh Singh. Utkarsh was instrumental in the win, first with the ball, picking up 2 wickets. He then played a crucial cameo with the bat, scoring a quickfire 24 runs off 16 balls to help his team successfully chase down the target.
