Suryavanshi hits one of India’s fastest T20 centuries

World Record: Suryavanshi hits one of India’s fastest T20 centuries

Asia Cup Rising Stars: The 14-year-old played a knock of 144 in 42 balls, which included 11 boundaries and 15 sixes. Suryavanshi equals Pant's record with a 32-ball hundred.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, lit up the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 with a jaw-dropping knock of 144 runs off only 42 balls in India A’s opening match against the UAE. His century came in just 32 balls, making it the joint-second fastest by an Indian in men’s T20s, alongside Rishabh Pant. Only Urvil Patel and Abhishek Sharma have scored faster hundreds both in 28 balls during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Suryavanshi’s innings wasn’t just fast it was massive. His 144 is the fourth-highest individual score by an Indian in T20S, and his strike rate of 342.85 is the fourth-best ever for a century in men’s T20S. He smashed 11 fours and 15 sixes, and was dismissed in the 13th over after completely dominating the game.

This was his second T20 century, following a 35-ball ton for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. That knock had already made him the youngest player to score a T20 hundred, and the second-fastest IPL centurion, behind only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton in 2011.

What makes this even more special is his age. At 14 years and 232 days, Suryavanshi is now the youngest male cricketer to score a century for a national representative team at senior level. He broke a long-standing record held by Mushfiqur Rahim, who was 16 when he scored 111* for Bangladesh A in 2005.

After the match, Suryavanshi said he was just playing his natural game. He admitted he was dropped on the first ball, but didn’t let that change his mindset. “I wanted to back my shots because we needed a big score,” he said. “The wicket was good and the boundary was small, so I kept going.”

He also gave credit to his father for keeping him focused. “He was strict with me since childhood. I didn’t understand it then, but now I see how it helped me stay disciplined and work hard,” he said. “Whatever I have today is because of him.”

Despite all the attention, Suryavanshi said he doesn’t feel pressure. “The fans come to support, and once I’m on the ground, I just focus on playing the ball.”

India A finished with a massive total of 297/4, the joint fifth-highest team score in men’s T20s. Captain Jitesh Sharma played a brilliant supporting role, smashing 83 not out off 32 balls to close out the innings.
