Sri Lanka experienced a major batting failure as Bangladesh equalized the series.
Bangladesh have bounced back to win the second T20 against Sri Lanka with a thumping 83-run victory.
Bangladesh bounced back in emphatic fashion to level the T20I series against Sri Lanka 1–1 with a commanding 83-run win in Dambulla. After a poor start that saw their openers dismissed within the first two overs, captain Litton Das and Shamim Hossain turned the tide with a strong batting performance. Sri Lanka, in response, crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 94, paving the way for a decisive final match in Colombo.
The game began with Sri Lanka on top, as Nuwan Thushara bowled Parvez Hossain Emon with a full inswinger and Binura Fernando removed Tanzid Hasan with a neat edge to the wicketkeeper. At 7 for 2, Bangladesh were in trouble, but Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das began rebuilding the innings. Hridoy counterattacked with a four and six off Dasun Shanaka, and although Litton took time to settle, he gradually picked up pace. His six over fine leg brought up a fifty-run stand and eventually helped him notch his 12th T20I half-century. Despite a few dropped chances, Bangladesh took full advantage, hammering 108 runs in the last ten overs. Litton finished with 76 off 50 balls, and Shamim’s fiery 48 off 27 added crucial late momentum before both were dismissed near the end. Bangladesh closed their innings at 177 for 7.
Sri Lanka started their chase briskly, scoring 19 off the first ten balls. However, a sharp direct hit from Shamim dismissed Kusal Mendis, and wickets tumbled rapidly from there. Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, and captain Charith Asalanka all fell inside the PowerPlay as Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained the pressure. Pathum Nissanka tried to anchor the innings but was removed for 32 by legspinner Rishad Hossain, who also dismissed Chamika Karunaratne two balls later.
The collapse continued as Mehidy Hasan took out the last big threat in Shanaka, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Saifuddin sent back Vandersay, Mustafizur Rahman got rid of Theekshana, and Rishad wrapped up the innings by stumping Binura Fernando. Sri Lanka’s innings lasted only 15.2 overs, and their 94-run total fell far short of the target.
