South Africa Crush Sri Lanka by 10 Wickets (DLS Method)

South Africa Crush Sri Lanka by 10 Wickets (DLS Method)

Women's ODI World Cup: South Africa Vs Sri Lanka: South Africa made easy work of Sri Lanka, registering a 10-wicket victory (DLS method) as openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits led the charge with unbeaten half-centuries.

It was a dominating performance by the South African women as they outplayed Sri Lanka in every department. After rain reduced the game, Sri Lanka managed to post only 105/7 in 20 overs, with Vishmi Gunaratne (34) and Nilakshi de Silva (18) offering some resistance. South Africa’s bowlers were exceptional, especially Nonkululeko Mlaba, who picked up 3 wickets, while Masabata Klaas grabbed 2/18.

Chasing a revised target under the DLS method, South Africa’s opening pair made the job look incredibly easy. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt (60 off 47)* and Tazmin Brits (55 off 42)* stitched together a magnificent unbeaten partnership, guiding their team to a comfortable 10-wicket win in just 14.5 overs.

The victory once again highlighted South Africa’s strength in both bowling and batting, while Sri Lanka struggled to find any rhythm throughout the game.

Sri Lanka Innings:

Sri Lanka’s decision to bat first didn’t go as planned. After a slow start, Hasini Perera (4) was the first to fall to Masabata Klaas, followed by captain Chamari Athapaththu (11), who couldn’t find her touch.

Vishmi Gunaratne (34 off 33) showed some intent with fine strokes, while Kavisha Dilhari (14) and Nilakshi de Silva (18) added useful runs in the middle order. However, frequent wickets halted any chance of acceleration.

Nonkululeko Mlaba was the pick of the bowlers with 3/30, while Masabata Klaas (2/18) and Nadine de Klerk (1/23) ensured Sri Lanka never got going. Eventually, the Lankans finished at 105/7 in 20 overs, a total far below par.

South Africa Innings:

Chasing a modest total, South Africa’s openers came out firing. Laura Wolvaardt led from the front with a classy 60 off 47 balls*, smashing 10 boundaries, while Tazmin Brits was equally brilliant, hammering 55 off 42 balls* with 8 fours.

The duo completely dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers, timing their shots beautifully and never letting the run rate drop. The chase was completed in 14.5 overs, giving South Africa a huge win by 10 wickets (DLS Method) and another boost in confidence for the tournament ahead.
