Sourav Ganguly Appointed as New CAB Chief Again

Former Indian team captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly could once again become the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). He has filed a nomination for the post of CAB president. No other candidate has filed a nomination against him.

"Don't make any assumptions," Sourav Ganguly said while asking about his chances of becoming president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) again. For now, he is back as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), a role he held from 2015 to 2019.

On Sep 22, 2025, the elections of the CAB Chief will be conducted when the association plans to conduct its AGM. Sourav Ganguly's return as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) was confirmed when he filed his nomination for the position on Sunday, September 14. Since there were no other nominations, he will be elected without opposition. He takes over from his older brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who has been in the role since 2019.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its elections on September 28, and there is talk that Ganguly might also return as BCCI president. He held that position from 2019 to 2022 before Roger Binny took over. Ganguly has been nominated by the CAB to represent them at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which means he still has a chance for the BCCI role. His name is likely to be associated with the BCCI post until nominations are accepted on September 20-21.

After being elected, he thanked everyone for the support he had received. At CAB, there is no matter of any opposition, and everyone is a part of it. He will work hard and take everyone together to take CAB and Bengal cricket forward. There are many upcoming key events lined up, such as the T20 World Cup, Bengal Pro T20 League and India’s Test match, and he will make sure that he does his best for them.

The panel that wasn't challenged and submitted their nominations included Nitish Ranjan Dutta (vice-president), Bablu Koley (secretary), Madan Mohan Ghosh (joint secretary), and Sanjay Das (treasurer).

Talking about his team, Ganguly said, "Bablu Koley has a lot of experience. Having someone like him is important because of his knowledge. Nitish Ranjan Dutta, Madan Mohan Ghosh, and Sanjay Das also bring a lot of experience, as they've been in this field for many years. Their knowledge will really help Bengal cricket."
