As per the report, to increase the decision-making accuracy and speed during the game in the Indian Premier League 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is setting to introduce the smart replay system, as per the reports.
Some reports to ESPNcricinfo show the new smart replay system will provide more visual angle views of the appeals to the umpires. As earlier they had to rely on the split screen visuals. The Smart Replay system will include eight Hawk-Eye High-speed cameras which will be installed at the grounds. The ground umpires will receive the inputs directly from the two Hawk-Eye operators, who will be sitting in the same room.
As per reports- The director of the TV broadcaster, who till now has a channel between the third umpire and Hawk-eye operators, will not be required to be involved in that channel system.
BCCI has already conducted the two-day workshop in Mumbai for the selected umpires for the season, on Sunday and Monday. Totally near about 15 umpires will be working on the new smart replay system in the IPL 2024.
Currently, Broadcasters have to use their camera footage for the on-field referrals, except from the LBWs and Edges. Under the new smart replay system, referrals for stumpings, run-outs, catches, and overthrows will be included in the decisions.
