Shreyas Iyer injures his rib cage while making a great catch
Australia vs India: India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is under medical care in a Sydney hospital following a rib cage injury that led to internal bleeding during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia on 25 October.
India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a rib injury during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG and was taken to the hospital for further checks, the BCCI confirmed.
The injury happened in the 34th over of Australia’s innings when Iyer pulled off a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana. Carey’s top edge flew high between backward point and deep third, and Iyer sprinted in from backward point, dived full stretch, and held on but landed hard and immediately clutched his side in pain.
He left the field before the next ball was bowled and didn’t return for the rest of the innings. Australia were bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs.
In the chase, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stitched an unbeaten 168-run stand, sealing a nine-wicket win for India in just 39 overs. Iyer wasn’t needed to bat.
Despite the win, Australia took the series 2-1.
