Ranji Trophy 2025: Services clinched a commanding eight-wicket victory after defeating Assam's innings twice inside two days. A record-breaking encounter in Indian domestic cricket history.
In a jaw-dropping Ranji Trophy clash, Services crushed Assam in just 90 overs, setting a new record for the shortest completed match in the tournament’s 91-year history. The game wrapped up in 540 balls, beating the previous record of 547 balls from a 1961-62 match between Delhi and Railways.
Only 359 runs were scored and 32 wickets fell, but the real headline? Two hat-tricks in the same innings a first in Ranji history! Services’ Arjun Sharma (left-arm spin) and Mohit Jangra (left-arm pace) both pulled off the rare feat.
Assam, batting first, were skittled out for 103 in just 17.2 overs, with Pradyun Saikia scoring a fighting 52. Services replied with 108 in 29.2 overs, thanks to Riyan Parag’s career-best 5 for 25 and Rahul Singh’s 4 for 44.
In the second innings, Assam collapsed again this time for 75 in 29.3 overs. Arjun Sharma starred with 4 for 20, while Amit Shukla chipped in with a miserly 3 for 6 in 6 overs.
Chasing just 71, Services sealed the win in 13.5 overs, losing only two wickets. The match lasted four sessions, just one more than the first-ever Ranji game in 1934 but with fewer balls bowled.
The venue, Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground, hosted its first Ranji game since 2001, and what a comeback it was!
With this win, Services lead Elite Group C with 13 points from two matches, while Assam sit fifth with just one point
