Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been appointed the brand ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The announcement was made by ICC chairman Jay Shah during the tournament’s schedule reveal, marking a historic moment as Rohit becomes the first active cricketer to hold this ambassadorial role.
Rohit Sharma has been announced as the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The announcement was made by ICC Chair Jay Shah during the release of the tournament schedule. The event will be played from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka.
Rohit has featured in all nine previous editions of the T20 World Cup, starting from the first in 2007, which India won. He captained India to their second title in 2024, finishing as the team’s top scorer with 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70. Soon after that victory against South Africa in the final, he announced his retirement from the format.
Across his career, Rohit played 47 T20 World Cup matches, scoring 1220 runs at an average of 34.86 and a strike rate of 133.04.
Speaking about his new role, Rohit said: “It is great to have the tournament back in India and for me to be associated once again, this time as the Brand Ambassador. I wish all the players the very best and hope they enjoy India’s hospitality and take back wonderful memories.”
