Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹30 lakh for his third slow over-rate violation
IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh for his third slow over-rate offence during the last league stage match against RCB, while his teammates in the playing XI were fined INR 12 lakh.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹30 lakh for his team's slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow on Tuesday.
This was LSG’s third slow over-rate offence of the season, with previous violations on April 5 and April 26. As per IPL rules, Pant had to pay ₹30 lakh, while the rest of the playing squad were fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever was lower.
Although this was Pant’s third offence, he won't face suspension. IPL changed the rules in 2025, removing automatic suspensions for repeated slow over-rate violations. However, Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), missed MI’s first game of the season because his suspension carried over from last year.
On the match front, Pant played a brilliant innings, scoring an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls, helping LSG put up 227/3 after batting first. But RCB chased down the target with six wickets in hand and eight balls to spare, and the credit goes to Virat Kohli’s 54 and Jitesh Sharma’s unbeaten 85.
With this loss, LSG ended the season with six wins and 12 points from 14 matches, finishing seventh in the ten-team standings. RCB, on the other hand, secured their spot in Qualifier 1 with 19 points from the league stage.
