Reddy gets hit in the knee during a warm-up game against England

Women's ODI World Cup 2025: India faced a blow before the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup as Arundhati Reddy was injured and wheelchaired off during the England warm-up in Bengaluru. But the boost for the Indian team is that she is available in league matches after declaring fit.

India allrounder Arundhati Reddy suffered a knee injury during the warm-up match against England at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground on Thursday, just five days before the start of the Women’s World Cup 2025. The full extent of her injury is still unknown.

The incident occurred when Heather Knight, returning from a hamstring injury, struck a powerful drive that hit Reddy’s left knee before she could react. She was visibly in pain, unable to put weight on her left foot, and had to be helped off the field in a wheelchair. Just moments earlier, Reddy had dismissed opener Amy Jones lbw for 39 in her fifth over. During India’s chase of 341, she did not come out to bat, and the team was eventually bowled out for 187.

This World Cup was set to be Reddy’s first in the ODI format. Despite battling injuries and inconsistent form in the past, she earned her spot after two strong seasons with Delhi Capitals in the WPL. Since making her ODI debut last year against South Africa, she has taken 15 wickets in 11 matches, including a standout 4 for 26 against Australia in December.

Reddy is one of four seamers in India’s main squad. In case she’s ruled out, Sayali Satghare who impressed with 3 for 45 in India A’s win over New Zealand in another warm-up match is the only pace option among the standby players.
