UP T20 League Qualifier 2: The Madhav Kaushik-led Meerut Mavericks beat Lucknow Falcons by 23 runs in the Qualifier 2 match of UP T20 League 2025. Kartik Tyagi picked up three wickets for just 29 runs as declared the player of the match.
The Meerut Mavericks showcased their skill and self-command under pressure as they defeated the Lucknow Falcons by 19 runs in a thrilling Qualifier 2 clash. It was a match that showed how the Mavericks were able to mix strong hitting with careful bowling, allowing them to secure a spot in the tournament's final stage.
Divyansh Rajput Steals the Show with the Bat
Batting first on a slightly tricky surface, the Mavericks knew they needed a dependable knock to set up a competitive total and they found their hero in Divyansh Rajput. Playing with authority and maturity, Rajput crafted a superb innings of 67 runs from just 45 balls. His knock included cleanly struck boundaries and clever placement, holding the innings together while also keeping the scoreboard moving.
He found valuable support from Prashant Chaudhary (30), who built a steady partnership with Rajput, and Swastik Chikara (16), who chipped in with a quick cameo to add momentum. Despite their combined efforts, the Mavericks’ batting line-up found it tough against the Falcons’ disciplined bowling.
For the Lucknow Falcons, Bhuvneshwar Kumar once again demonstrated why he is one of the most reliable bowlers in high-pressure matches. His spell of 3/26 kept the Mavericks from running away with the game. Vipraj Nigam and Abhinandan Singh also contributed effectively, taking 2 wickets each and applying pressure in the middle overs. However, Rajput’s classy innings ensured the Mavericks reached a fighting total of 143/7 in their 20 overs.
Falcons’ Chase Falls Short
Chasing 144 for victory, the Lucknow Falcons needed a strong start to stay in the game. However, they struggled to gain momentum against a sharp and disciplined Mavericks’ bowling attack. While the Falcons’ batting unit has been formidable throughout the season, this time they lacked the firepower and partnerships needed to get over the line.
The only standout with the bat was Aaradhaya Yadav, who played a determined innings of 54 runs from 50 balls. Though his half-century showed resilience, the lack of support from the other end meant the Falcons’ chase never really took off. The middle order failed to counter the pressure, and wickets at regular intervals derailed their progress.
Mavericks’ Bowlers Seal the Deal
The Mavericks’ bowlers deserve much of the credit for this win, as they combined accuracy with clever variations to choke the Falcons’ chase. Kartik Tyagi led the charge with a brilliant spell, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs. His breakthroughs came at crucial junctures, breaking partnerships and keeping the Falcons under constant pressure.
Vijay Kumar (2 wickets) added further damage, while Vishal Chaudhary and Zeeshan Ansari also chipped in with a wicket apiece. The collective effort ensured that the Falcons were bowled out for 124 runs, falling 19 runs short of the target.
Mavericks March On
This result marks a huge achievement for the Meerut Mavericks, who now advance closer to the championship title. Their ability to handle pressure, coupled with impactful performances from key players, makes them one of the most dangerous sides in the tournament.
For the Lucknow Falcons, it was a disappointing end to their campaign. Despite flashes of brilliance from Aaradhaya Yadav and the ever-reliable Bhuvneshwar Kumar, they couldn’t rise to the occasion in this must-win contest.
The Mavericks’ victory was a true display of teamwork, discipline, and big-match temperament qualities that will serve them well as they prepare for the ultimate challenge in the grand finale.
