Police Register FIR Against RCB Following Deaths of 11 Fans

RCB Victory Parade Stampede: Royal Challengers Bengaluru has pledged Rs 10 lakh in financial aid to the families of each of the 11 fans who died in the tragic crowd surge outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru has just won the title of IPL champions, but it seems like their celebrations have been short-lived as an FIR has been registered against the RCB over the deaths of 11 people along with the injury to many more people at the time of the event held on Wednesday for the celebration.
As per the FIR, the police of Bengaluru have claimed that they did not give permission to RCB for organising any event in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The stampede happened around the stadium, resulting in injuries and deaths. RCB was named as the main accused in the FIR, along with DNA Entertainment, their event partners, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which manages the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
A complaint was registered by Girish AK, who is an inspector from the Cubbon Park division, after which the FIR was filed.  The report states about six sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: 105 (punishment for causing death without killing), 115 (causing harm on purpose), 118 (causing serious injuries using dangerous means or weapons), 132 (attacking or threatening a public servant to stop them from doing their job), 125 (doing something that puts others' lives or safety at risk), and 190 (unlawful gathering).
In the FIR, the Bengaluru police said their officers were on duty around the stadium until 5:30 am on June 4 after RCB's win. They mentioned that it would be hard to manage another large crowd the next afternoon, so permission for the event at the stadium was denied. Despite this, KSCA, RCB, and DNA went ahead with their plans and ignored the police's instructions.
The Bengaluru police have reported that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) held a victory celebration without official permission, leading to a tragic stampede that resulted in the deaths of 11 fans and injuries to many others. The FIR filed against RCB, along with DNA Entertainment and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), indicates significant lapses in crowd management and planning.
According to the police, RCB announced the celebration and parade on social media, drawing large crowds without coordinating with law enforcement or obtaining the necessary approvals. Despite police warnings about the potential dangers of managing such a large crowd, the event proceeded. The stadium, which has a capacity of around 30,000 to 35,000 people, saw lakhs of fans gathered outside when gates opened, causing chaos and the eventual stampede.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for an inquiry into the incident and directed arrests of those responsible, alongside the suspension of key police officials. The state government is taking measures to conduct a thorough investigation, including the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
In response to the tragedy, both the state and RCB have pledged compensation of INR 10 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and will cover medical expenses for the injured. Additionally, new regulations for public gatherings are being considered to prevent future incidents of this nature. RCB is expected to respond to these developments.
