Pant goes to the BCCI's training centre to start practising again

Good News for India as star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has successfully returned to training. Pant, who hasn't played any cricket or even trained since the Old Trafford Test match against England where he fractured his right foot, is headed to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to resume his training.

Rishabh Pant, who hasn't played cricket or trained since the Old Trafford Test against England, where he broke his right foot, is going to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to start training again. It has been reported that Pant's foot is no longer in a cast, and he can now walk comfortably.

Rishabh Pant is India's top choice as wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket. India's next World Test Championship matches will be at home against the West Indies in a two-Test series next month, with games in Ahmedabad from October 2-6 and in Delhi from October 10-14. The team selection for this series is likely to happen in the last week of September.

Rishabh Pant injured his foot during the fourth Test at Old Trafford while trying a bold reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He inside-edged the ball onto his foot, suffered a fracture, and had to retire hurt on 37. Remarkably, he returned to bat the next day wearing a moonboot and scored a valuable 54.

With Pant unable to keep wicket, Dhruv Jurel stepped in for both the fourth and fifth Tests. N Jagadeesan was also flown in as a backup option. If Pant doesn’t recover in time for the upcoming West Indies Tests, Jurel and Jagadeesan are likely to be the top contenders for the wicketkeeping role.

In the fourth Test, Pant didn’t need to bat again as Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar all scored centuries to save the match. That kept the series at 2-1 in England’s favour. India then won the final Test at The Oval without Pant, levelling the series 2-2.
