South Africa vs India: Ngidi joins the South Africa team for the second Test match against India
South Africa tour India: South Africa has added fast bowler Lungi Ngidi to their squad for the second Test against India in Guwahati, starting this Saturday.
Ngidi’s selection hints that Kagiso Rabada, who missed the first Test win in Kolkata due to a rib injury, might not be fit yet. The other pace options for South Africa are Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, and Wiaan Mulder.
Ngidi has played 20 Tests in total, but only three since returning to the team in January 2024. His last Test was the WTC final against Australia in June. He has played just one Test in India, back in 2019, where he didn’t take any wickets.
He’s been active recently, playing in South Africa’s ODI and T20I series in Pakistan and also featuring in a CSA T20 Challenge match last week.
In Kolkata, South Africa’s fast bowlers bowled 40 overs and took six wickets, helping the team win their first Test in India since 2010. That pitch helped the seamers, but it’s still unknown how the Guwahati pitch will behave, as it’s never hosted a Test match before.
