New Chandigarh Stadium opened by Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh
World Cup winners Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur were honoured on Thursday when the New Chandigarh Stadium named two of its stands after them, thanking them for their great contribution to Indian cricket.
India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh had stadium stands named after them at the New Chandigarh Stadium. The stands were officially opened before the second men’s T20I between India and South Africa.
Both Harmanpreet and Yuvraj were present at the stadium for the ceremony, along with their team-mates, families and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Yuvraj was also seen giving a short motivational talk to the Indian team before the match.
Yuvraj retired from international cricket in 2019 after starting his career in 2000. He played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is, and last represented India in 2017. Known as a strong middle-order batter and handy left-arm spinner, he was part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup win and had an unforgettable 2011 ODI World Cup, where he scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets, earning the Player of the Tournament award.
Harmanpreet, who recently led India to their first-ever Women’s World Cup win in November, is one of the biggest names in women’s cricket. The power-hitting batter made her India debut in 2009 and has so far played six Tests, 161 ODIs and 182 T20Is, scoring 4409 ODI runs and 3654 T20I runs.
