Nepal surprised everyone by beating the West Indies 2-0
West Indies vs Nepal: Nepal beat West Indies by 90 runs to take a 2-0 Lead in the T20I Series. West Indies were bowled out for just 83 runs on scoreboard.
Fans in red and blue celebrated in Sharjah as the last wicket fell Zishan Morata was caught by Karan KC, and West Indies were all out for just 83 runs. This was Nepal's first T20I series against a Full Member nation, and they won it 2–0 with one game still left to play.
West Indies never got going. They crawled to 16/2 in the power play, with Jewel Andrew bowled by Dipendra Singh Airee and Keacy Carty dismissed thanks to a brilliant catch by Kushal Bhurtel. Nepal’s bowlers kept things tight with clever slower balls and pinpoint yorkers. Only Jason Holder (21 off 15) looked somewhat comfortable.
Their total of 83 is the West Indies’ sixth-lowest in T20Is, and the 90-run defeat is their joint fourth-biggest loss by runs.
The biggest difference? Nepal’s fielding. Mohammad Aadil Alam took 4/24, but it was Gulsan Jha’s diving catch to dismiss Kyle Mayers that lit up the eighth over. Jha wasn’t done he took another screamer to remove Holder later in the innings.
Alam also dismissed Ackeem Auguste and Amir Jangoo in back-to-back overs, and Bhurtel cleaned up the tail with three wickets. West Indies kept finding fielders instead of clearing them.
Earlier, Nepal’s innings had two clear halves. In the first ten overs, they didn’t hit a single six but built a solid base. Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora took them to 74/3 at the halfway mark.
Then came the fireworks. Jora smashed 63 off 39 balls, including five sixes. Sheikh stayed unbeaten on 68 off 47. Alam chipped in with a quick 11 off 5 to push the total to 173.
West Indies’ captain Akeal Hosein was their best bowler, taking 2/21 and reducing Nepal to 14/2 early on. But the fight didn’t last.
West Indies’ 83 all out is now the lowest total by a Full Member team against an Associate nation. The 90-run loss is also the biggest margin by which an Associate team has beaten a Full Member.
And Nepal did it without their star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who missed both games due to personal reasons. Coach Stuart Law confirmed Lamichhane had excused himself.
Nepal head into the final match on Tuesday with the series already in the bag and momentum ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup qualifiers next month. This is, without doubt, the most significant series win in Nepal’s cricket history
