Mumbai’s Winning Streak Continues as Royals Crash Out
IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 100 runs. RR is the second-eliminated team from the IPL playoff race.
Mumbai Indians (MI) finally broke their Jaipur curse, securing their first win at the venue since 2012 with a dominant 100-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR). This win not only put MI at the top of the points table but also knocked RR out of the playoff race.
MI started cautiously, scoring just 16 runs in the first three overs, with Rohit Sharma surviving an lbw scare thanks to a late DRS call. But once the powerplay progressed, MI accelerated, adding 42 runs in the last three overs. Rohit Sharma played smart cricket, adjusting his shots based on the field placements, while Ryan Rickelton countered RR’s bowling tactics with powerful short-arm pulls and well-placed shots. Suryakumar Yadav wasted no time, attacking six of his first seven deliveries and setting an IPL record with his 11th consecutive score of 25 or more. Hardik Pandya was explosive, smashing boundaries and forming a 94-run partnership in just 44 balls. MI finished with 217/2, the joint-highest IPL total at this ground.
RR had a nightmare start, losing five wickets in the first six overs. Their chase never gained momentum, and they were bowled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. Trent Boult struck early, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal with a stylish finger-gun send-off. At the other end, Jasprit Bumrah dominated with short balls, forcing Riyan Parag into a mistimed pull shot. Karn Sharma cleaned up the lower order, ensuring MI’s comprehensive victory. RR’s top scorer was Jofra Archer, and their highest partnership came for the 10th wicket, highlighting their batting collapse.
MI’s sixth consecutive win puts them in a strong position for the playoffs, while RR’s elimination marks a disappointing end to their campaign. MI’s batting depth and bowling attack proved too strong for RR. This match was a statement win for MI, showing their dominance in both batting and bowling.
