Mohammed Shami included in Bengal's list of 50 players for the upcoming domestic season

Indian fast-bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since IPL 2025 and is not part of India’s ongoing Test tour of England, was on Saturday named in Bengal’s 50-member list of probable's for the upcoming domestic season.

Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been named among Bengal’s 50 probables for the upcoming domestic cricket season. Shami, who isn’t part of India’s current Test squad touring England, could make his return to competitive cricket through the state side.
The list, released by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), also includes fast bowler Akash Deep and top-order batter Abhimanyu Easwaran both of whom are currently touring England with the Indian Test team. Experienced seamer Mukesh Kumar and senior batter Anustup Majumdar are also part of the squad, with Majumdar likely to lead Bengal once again.
Spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed, who is recovering from an injury picked up during the Bengal Pro League T20, is included as well. So is young wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel. All selected players will attend a pre-season training camp, though its date and location are yet to be confirmed.
Shami may also be seen in action for East Zone during the Duleep Trophy, which begins on August 28 and returns to its traditional format with zonal teams. This could mark his official comeback after a gap in competitive play.
The 33-year-old pacer last played for India in their victorious Champions Trophy campaign earlier this year, after recovering from an ankle injury. He took nine wickets in five matches joint-highest alongside Varun Chakravarthy as India lifted the title after beating New Zealand in the final.
However, Shami had a disappointing run in the IPL while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He picked up just six wickets in nine games, with an expensive economy rate of 11.23.
Before that, he returned to international cricket in January during a T20I series against England at home. His previous appearance before that was in the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.
Shami had featured for Bengal last domestic season across formats, but he wasn’t included in India’s Test squad for the tour of Australia.
