Mithun Manhas becomes the 37th President of BCCI

Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has been elected BCCI President, replacing Roger Binny. At 45, he becomes the first uncapped Indian and the first from Jammu and Kashmir to hold the top post of Indian cricket.

Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been elected as the 37th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during its 94th annual general meeting held in Mumbai. The position had been vacant since Roger Binny stepped down in August, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla temporarily filling in. Shukla continues in his role, while Devajit Saikia remains board secretary. Former India spinner Raghuram Bhat, who recently completed his term as Karnataka State Cricket Association president, has taken over as treasurer. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, the outgoing treasurer, is now the joint secretary.

Manhas, who played domestic cricket for nearly two decades and scored over 9,700 first-class runs, expressed his gratitude and commitment to the role, calling it an “absolute honour” and promising to serve with “dedication and passion.” He credited his experience as a cricketer and administrator—especially his recent work with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association—as key factors in his appointment. Born in Jammu, Manhas switched from Delhi to J&K in 2015 before retiring, and has coached various teams, including Bangladesh U-19 and IPL franchises like Punjab Kings, RCB, and Gujarat Titans.

The BCCI also announced changes to its selection panels. Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh have joined the senior men’s selection committee, replacing S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee. Ajit Agarkar continues as chief selector, with Ajay Ratra and SS Das also on the panel. Sharath now heads the junior selection committee, which includes Harvinder Sodhi, Ranadeb Bose, Pathik Patel, and Krishna Mohan. In the women’s selection panel, Amita Sharma has replaced Neetu David as chairperson, joined by Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanthi Naidu. Amita, a former Indian batter, played 162 matches across formats from 2002 to 2014.

Jaydev Shah has joined the BCCI’s Apex Council, replacing Mizoram’s Khairul Jamal Majumdar, who moves to the IPL Governing Council led by Arun Dhumal. Jayesh George now chairs the Women’s Premier League committee, which includes senior BCCI officials like Manhas, Shukla, Saikia, Bhatia, and Bhat, along with Madhumati Lele, Sanjay Tandon, and RI Palani. These appointments mark a new phase in BCCI’s leadership, blending cricketing experience with administrative depth.
