Mitchell Starch Makes His Comeback After 11 Years
Big Bash League: Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is set to play his first BBL match in 11 seasons in January after signing with the Sydney Sixers.
Mitchell Starc is set to make his Big Bash League comeback after 11 years, signing up with the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming season running from December 14 to January 25. He’ll be available to play after the Ashes series ends on January 8, depending on his fitness.
Just like the past two seasons, Starc joins the Sixers as a supplementary player a spot reserved for Cricket Australia-contracted players with limited availability. But with his recent retirement from T20 internationals, there’s now a better chance he’ll feature in the second half of the tournament.
“I can’t wait to pull on the Sixers’ fresh magenta playing shirt in BBL|15,” Starc said. “The Sixers are close to my heart, and I have great memories of our BBL|01 and Champions League success. My goal is to help bring another trophy home to our passionate fans.”
Starc last played for the Sixers in 2014 and has taken 20 wickets in 10 games. He was also part of the squad that won the first-ever BBL title and starred in their 2012 Champions League win, where he finished as the top wicket-taker.
Sixers’ general manager Rachael Haynes said the team was thrilled to have Starc back. “Mitch’s strike power with both the new and old ball is unmatched. Even when not playing, he’s been a great ambassador for the club. We’re excited for his leadership on and off the field in BBL|15.
