Mitchell Starc is back for the one-day matches against India

India Tour Australia: Marsh will continue to captain the ODI team in the absence of Cummins, who is continuing his recovery from lumbar bone stress in preparation for the Ashes. Mitchell Starc and Matthew Renshaw also returns to Australia's ODI squad.

Mitchell Starc is back in Australia's ODI team for the three-match series against India, starting October 19 in Perth. Matthew Short and Mitchell Owen also return to the 15-player squad after recovering from injuries a side strain and a concussion. Matthew Renshaw has been added to the team, too.

Mitchell Marsh will lead the team as captain, with Pat Cummins skipping this series to focus on getting fit for the Ashes, which begins on November 21.

Cricket Australia has also announced the squad for the first two matches of the five-game T20I series, scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 8. These matches will help the team prepare for the Men's T20 World Cup in 2026.

Australia T20I squad (first two games): Sean Abbott, Mitchell Marsh (c), Tim David, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, Matthew Kuhnemann, Matthew Short, Mitchell Owen, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

This will be Mitchell Starc’s first series of the season, as he skipped the South Africa tour to manage his workload ahead of the Ashes. He’s already retired from T20I cricket.

Some players from the previous ODI series against South Africa are not part of this squad Marnus Labuschagne, Sean Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Matthew Kuhnemann have been left out.

Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth because he’s playing for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, but he’ll be back for the last two matches. Matthew Renshaw returns to the ODI squad for the first time since 2022, thanks to strong performances for Australia A and Queensland.

The squad also features Travis Head and Josh Inglis, plus all-rounders Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green, and captain Mitchell Marsh. The pace attack includes Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, Ben Dwarshuis, and Starc. Bartlett and Dwarshuis can also contribute with the bat. Adam Zampa is the only specialist spinner.

After the ODI series, Cameron Green will head back to play for Western Australia to prepare for the Ashes.

Josh Inglis and Nathan Ellis are back in Australia’s T20I squad. Inglis returns after recovering from a calf injury, while Ellis missed the last series to be with his family for the birth of his first child. Glenn Maxwell, however, is still out due to a wrist injury he picked up during practice before the Chappell-Hadlee series.

Josh Phillipe and Alex Carey have been dropped from the squad that played against New Zealand, with Inglis expected to take over wicketkeeping duties.

Australia’s batting lineup is stacked with Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Inglis, Matthew Short, and Mitchell Owen. Marcus Stoinis keeps his spot in Maxwell’s absence. The pace attack features Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett, Josh Hazlewood, and Ellis, while Matthew Kuhnemann and Adam Zampa are the spin options.

Selector George Bailey explained that squads have been named for the ODI series and the first two T20Is, with some players set to be managed later in the tour as they gear up for the domestic Sheffield Shield and the upcoming Test summer. He added that most of the T20 squad will stay together as the team builds towards the 2026 T20 World Cup, while also preparing key players for the Test series.
