Mitchell might miss the rest of the ODI series against West Indies

New Zealand vs West Indies: New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell scored his seventh ODI century during the first match against West Indies.

New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell is unsure to play the rest of the ODI series against West Indies after getting a groin injury during his match-winning century in Christchurch.

Mitchell scored 119 off 118 balls in New Zealand’s seven-run win, but he will stay in Christchurch for a scan to check the injury.

To cover for him, Henry Nicholls has been added to the squad for the second ODI in Napier on Wednesday. Nicholls last played an ODI in April and is currently the top scorer in the Ford Trophy, making 306 runs at an average of 76.50, including two back-to-back centuries.

Mark Chapman is the other extra batter in the squad, and he has been in great form too, averaging 101.33 in four ODIs this year.

Mitchell has been performing very well this season and even won Player of the Series against England.

Captain Mitchell Santner praised him, saying, “He is a man for crisis. He played extremely well, even on one leg at the end.”

New Zealand are already missing several players in this series due to injuries, including Mohammad Abbas, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, and Ben Sears.

Kane Williamson also wasn’t selected as he is recovering from a groin issue and is focusing on getting ready for the Test series against West Indies.
