Maxwell is back, and Beardman is set to make his debut as Australia reshuffles their teams before the Ashes.
Glenn Maxwell is ready to return from a wrist injury for the upcoming T20I series against India.
Glenn Maxwell missed the New Zealand tour but is expected to play in the last three matches of this series. Australia might also hand a debut to 20-year-old fast bowler Mahli Beardman, who’s impressed in domestic cricket and was the Player of the Final in last year’s U-19 World Cup.
To prepare for the Ashes starting November 21, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott have been released to play Sheffield Shield games. Labuschagne will return to Queensland, while Hazlewood and Abbott will play for New South Wales. Steve Smith will also feature in the Shield match at the Gabba.
For the third ODI against India at the SCG, NSW captain Jack Edwards and spinner Matt Kuhnemann have been added to the squad. Josh Philippe, who filled in for Maxwell in New Zealand and later covered for Josh Inglis, joins the T20I squad again. Inglis is recovering from a calf injury but should be back for the Sydney ODI.
Beardman’s selection is a highlight—he’s only played a few senior games but has shown promise and could follow the path of other young Aussie talents like Xavier Bartlett and Cooper Connolly.
Hazlewood will play just the first two T20Is, while Abbott will feature in the third before switching back to red-ball cricket. With Pat Cummins still recovering and Cameron Green easing back into bowling, Abbott could play a key role in Australia’s pace attack this summer alongside Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett.
