Mavericks Ride Rinku Singh’s Fireworks to a 7-Wicket Triumph
UP T20 League: Rinku Singh's powered knock Meerut Mavericks to a 136-run chase in just 15.4 overs against Kashi Rudras at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
The Meerut Mavericks produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat the Kashi Rudras by 7 wickets in a highly entertaining contest. Their bowlers set the tone early by restricting the Rudras to a modest score, and their star batsmen, led by Rinku Singh, ensured the chase was completed in style. It was a complete team performance that highlighted the Mavericks’ balance and power.
The Kashi Rudras began their innings with confidence, thanks to an excellent start from their opening pair, Abhishek Goswami and Karan Sharma. Both batsmen looked in fine touch, building a strong partnership at the top. Goswami played a fluent knock of 66 runs, finding the gaps beautifully and striking boundaries at regular intervals. Captain Karan Sharma also impressed with a composed 61, playing the anchor role and keeping the scoreboard ticking.
However, once the partnership was broken, the Rudras lost their rhythm completely. The middle order and lower order collapsed under pressure, unable to carry forward the momentum set by the openers. From a position of strength, the Rudras suddenly found themselves struggling, finishing with a total of just 135 runs—well below what they would have expected after such a good start.
The Mavericks’ bowlers deserve full credit for the turnaround. Kartik Tyagi was sensational, using his pace and variations to trouble the Rudras’ batsmen. He ended with remarkable figures of four wickets for 33 runs, breaking the backbone of the Rudras’ batting. Vijay Kumar also bowled a smart spell, picking up two wickets, while Yash Garg and Vishal Chaudhary chipped in with one wicket each. Their disciplined bowling in the middle and death overs ensured that the Rudras never recovered after losing their openers.
Chasing a target of 136, the Mavericks had a shaky start. They lost three early wickets and looked under pressure. The Rudras’ bowlers seemed to have created an opening to pull the game back. But that’s when the Mavericks’ star power came alive.
Rinku Singh, known for his fearless batting, played one of the best knocks of the tournament. He smashed an unbeaten 78 runs off just 48 balls, hitting 6 fours and 6 towering sixes. His aggressive approach completely shifted the momentum, and the Rudras’ bowlers had no answers to his clean hitting. At the other end, Madhav Kaushik provided the perfect support, remaining unbeaten on 34. His calm and steady presence allowed Rinku to play freely, and together they stitched a match-winning partnership.
The Mavericks reached the target in only 15.4 overs, making the chase look effortless in the end. It was a perfect example of teamwork: the bowlers restricted the opposition to a manageable score, and the batsmen, led by Rinku Singh’s brilliance, finished the job with authority.
This victory will give the Meerut Mavericks huge confidence as they continue their campaign. For the Kashi Rudras, it was a case of missed opportunity. After a strong start from their openers, they would have hoped for a much bigger score, but their middle order collapse cost them the game.
The Mavericks, meanwhile, showed that with their strong batting lineup and effective bowling attack, they are a team capable of chasing down any target and handling pressure with ease.
