Latham is out of the Pakistan ODIs because of his broken hand

New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series. Michael Bracewell continues to lead the team for the ODI series against Pakistan.

Tom Latham has been ruled out of New Zealand's ODI series against Pakistan due to a fractured hand sustained during training. Michael Bracewell will step in as captain, continuing from his leadership in the T20I series, while Mitch Hay will take over wicketkeeping duties. Henry Nicholls has been called up to replace Latham, bringing valuable experience after recovering from a three-month injury layoff.
Will Young will leave the squad after the first ODI in Napier to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. In his place, uncapped 23-year-old batter Rhys Mariu, with an impressive first-class average of 61.73, has earned his maiden call-up.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead acknowledged the challenges of player availability but highlighted the opportunities for newcomers like Mariu and the return of Nicholls. He expressed disappointment over Latham's injury but praised Bracewell's leadership.
New Zealand recently won the T20I series against Pakistan 4-1, showcasing strong form despite several players being unavailable due to IPL commitments. The ODI series begins on March 29 in Napier.
