Kohli Slips as Suryakumar Claims Orange Cap Lead

Kohli Slips as Suryakumar Claims Orange Cap Lead

IPL 2025- Orange and Purple Cap standings: Nicholas Pooran and Prasidh Krishna are leaders

There were big changes in the race for the Orange Cap on Sunday during IPL 2025. Virat Kohli climbed to No. 3 in the afternoon match, but by the end of the night, he had dropped to No. 4, with a new player taking his spot. Here’s the latest update on both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings after Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Purple Cap leaderboard
Virat Kohli (RCB) climbed to third place on the run-scorers' table after his match, becoming the fifth batter this season to cross 300 runs. However, later in the day, Suryakumar Yadav (MI) also hit that milestone and overtook Kohli to take the third spot.
Kohli has been scoring steadily without dominating the tournament. On Sunday, he helped RCB chase down 158 runs with a solid 73* off 54 balls, taking his season tally to 322 runs. This was his fourth fifty of the season, and he now averages an impressive 64.40—the highest among batters with over 150 runs, aside from Tim David’s incredible 142.00. Kohli's strike rate of 140.00, however, is the lowest among the top five.
Suryakumar made his move with a blazing 68* off 30 balls as MI crushed CSK by nine wickets. He now has 333 runs for the season, ranking only behind Nicholas Pooran (LSG) with 368 runs and Sai Sudharsan (GT) with 365 runs. GT face KKR on Monday, and Sudharsan needs just four runs to grab the Orange Cap.
Following Suryakumar and Kohli, Jos Buttler (GT) sits at 315 runs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) has 307. Mitchell Marsh (LSG), once a top contender, has slipped to seventh place with 299 runs. The leaderboard is heating up.

Several bowlers had a chance to catch up to Gujarat Titans' (GT) Prasidh Krishna, who leads with 14 wickets, but none of them managed to take a wicket on Sunday. Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed (CSK), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), and MI captain Hardik Pandya all went wicketless in their matches. Arshdeep Singh (PBKS) picked up one wicket against RCB, which puts him in contention, but he still has some ground to cover.
Prasidh Krishna remains at the top, followed by Delhi Capitals' (DC) Kuldeep Yadav, Noor, Hazlewood, and LSG's Shardul Thakur, who each have 12 wickets. Close behind them, five bowlers have 11 wickets: GT’s R Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed. The competition for the Purple Cap is heating up.
